What to consider when buying a fridge or freezer.
The main difference between a freestanding appliance and an integrated (built-in) one is the aesthetic. Integrated appliances are installed into the kitchen housing to create a sleek, modern look.
Siemens built-in solutions ensure that your appliance is seamlessly integrated and easily accessible no matter where you place it in the kitchen. The modularFit system makes it possible to combine a standalone fridge and freezer, either vertically or next to each other.
Our anti-condensation technology prevents the buildup of moisture, allowing you to place your fridge directly against a wall, without a ventilation gap. And, thanks to our innovative hinge design, drawers slide out smoothly even when the door is opened at a 90-degree angle.
While size selection largely depends on the space available, it is important to make sure your fridge has enough capacity for your household. A good rule of thumb for calculating the capacity is to start with 100 litres for one person and add 50 litres for every additional person in your home.
- One-person household: 100-litre capacity
- Two-person household: 150-litre capacity
- Three-person household: 200-litre capacity
Siemens fridges and freezers are available in various different heights to exactly match your individual needs. The range starts from 72 cm height and reaches up to 212 cm high cooling appliances. The standard width is 60 cm but selected extra wide and narrow cooling appliance are available.
The energy efficiency of Siemens appliances plays a vital role in supporting sustainable lifestyle choices. Our latest cooling appliances use up to 75% less energy in comparison to a similar appliance from 2001 (per 100 l net capacity in 24 h). While older appliances used up to 200 kilowatt-hours (kWh), a newer Siemens fridge-freezer with a high rating on the energy label uses only roughly 50 kWh per year per 100 liter net capacity.
Our innovative door hinges ensure your fridge or freezer not only blends in with your kitchen cabinets and counters but also opens freely wherever you place it. All three hinge options are reversible, giving you the option to open from the left or right side:
- Fixed with damper: Siemens' premium hinge attaches the furniture door to the appliance door and guarantees slow and smooth closing.
- Fixed: The furniture door is fixed to the appliance door.
- Sliding: The furniture door is attached to the cabinet and connected to the appliance door via sliding rails.
We recommend a fixed hinge, ideally with a damper. When replacing an appliance, you can either select the existing hinge system or upgrade from a sliding to a fixed hinge, or from a regular fixed hinge to one with a damper.
The flush-mounted LED lights are perfectly positioned to provide brilliant and even illumination, so you can see everything inside at a glance.
- The softClosing ensures the door is always properly shut by automatically and gently closing it when it reaches a 20° angle or less.
- The superCooling button quickly and temporarily reduces the temperature in the refrigerator to +2 °C. This allows you to cool down fresh items fast and prevent them from affecting the rest of your food.
- With superFreezing, your appliance cools down to –30°C for a brief period. This means you can take your time restocking the freezer and your frozen foods won't begin to thaw.
