Even as a child, Rasmus Malling loved interiors. In his childhood home by the sea in Risskov, Denmark, he refurnished his room several times a month. The interest only grew with the years and after graduating from the School of Economics and working at the district court, interior design is now his full-time job.

"I come from a family where interior design has always been important. I don't have any specific education to speak of in either interior design or photography; it all comes from a genuine interest and passion."

The beautiful, light apartment in central Århus was renovated by Rasmus as soon as he bought it

A new kitchen and bathroom were fitted and the rooms were filled with carefully chosen furniture so that holistically, it creates a modern and charming atmosphere. It was not by chance that he chose Århus. Rasmus is close to his family here, and the area is relaxed and cosy.

"I really love it in Århus. when I separated from my boyfriend, I had more time to create a home I could be happy in and then I shared it on my Instagram account. The number of followers quickly grew and it became clear to me that I really have an eye for this."

Rasmus describes his style as a glorious blend of classic Scandinavian and the cosy Parisian home. It also has an oriental touch, especially in the bathroom which drew inspiration from Morocco. Over the years the colours in his home have gone from dull and dark to much lighter. He found that he was happier with lighter walls and furniture around him. He loves the kitchen especially, where he enjoys having a cup of coffee together with friends and listening to music in the candlelight. Rasmus thinks that a good coffee corner creates a 'feel good place' and that the surroundings play an important role in helping you enjoy the coffee experience.

According to Rasmus, a good coffee corner is a place of harmony

"My favourite room is definitely the kitchen. I love the warmth of the wood and the light from the window; it makes me feel happy and safe. This is where I prefer to sit and drink my morning coffee; its absolutely the best way to start the day."

Rasmus has been drinking coffee since he was a teenager and today it is one of the first things on his mind when he wakes up. Preferably a cappuccino; the soft, rounded flavour attracts him and, since he drinks quite a lot of coffee during the day, a cappuccino contains just the right amount of caffeine. Since he started making coffee in his fully automated espresso machine, he couldn't imagine going back to the instant coffee he used to drink, sometimes much too quickly. Now the experience is richer and longer and it enables him to take a break from his stressful day. He also likes to take his time to enjoy the flavour.

"The difference in flavour is quite simply enormous"

"It's something about the way the Siemens machine handles the beans that makes it so good. On top of that I'm really impressed with how simple it is. It's so easy to use and for a coffee lover like me that's great."

Rasmus intends to continue to work on what has become a large part of his life. He's planning on starting a new creative project where he can focus on what really fires him up - creating interior and design content. At home, he can stop and take a breath in a space he is happy in.
