On the west coast of Norway, right by the sea, Tonje Bjerknes lives with her family, dog, and cats. Her keen interest in interior design and architecture permeates everything in the house: soft minimalism with clean, Nordic lines and a touch of Japanese-style, intertwined with an absolutely mesmerising view.

"My husband grew up here on the island and I fell in love with the place the first time I saw it. It wasn't hard to convince me to build a house here. I love the sea and the big mountains around us".

With the construction of the villa, Tonje was finally able to indulge her long-standing passion for creating content and photographing interior design and architecture. And when the house was finished, new and exciting projects were on the horizon: a guest house, an outdoor kitchen and, not least, a cabin where the family can meet and relax.

"We love going to the cabin"

"For us, it means quality family time, relaxation and renewed energy. I find inspiration and creativity in the cabin".

In both houses, it's easy to see how the sea and the mountains influence the way Tonje likes to decorate. She lets nature shine through in all her choices, both in materials such as wood, wool, linen and stone, and in colours - or rather the lack of them..

"There are not many colours in our house. They are muted and the rooms are open.Everything is done to give space to nature, so that you can really enjoy the view"

The interior of the cabin differs from the house in many ways. In the cabin, the rooms and the kitchen are brighter, with more characteristic Scandinavian lines, because Tonje wanted something different from the black kitchen at home.

"I love change and don't want to get stuck in one style."

Tonje's favourite rooms are those with sea views, such as the living room.

She likes to retreat here with a caffe latte and something sweet, whatever the weather outside the window. It's important to Tonje that her coffee corner is cosy. She likes to decorate it with beautiful textiles: a woollen blanket, scented candles and, of course, a really good cup of coffee.

"The best thing about the Siemens machine, apart from the good coffee, is the range of options. I can choose just like in a café and the duo function is really clever: two cups of coffee for me and my husband in no time at all".

In the morning or in the middle of the day, when Tonje sits down in her coffee corner with a book or newspaper, she prefers to sit in one of her sheep's wool armchairs.

"I love my sheep's wool chairs, they're so soft and comfortable. I have one in the cabin and two at home".
