Deciding what fridge to buy can be difficult. You have to consider the design of your kitchen, the space available, the size of your household, special features, price, and finally choose a convenient configuration. To help you make the right choice, this refrigerator buyer's guide answers some key questions.

Freestanding vs built-in fridge: Which is best for me?

Choosing between a built-in and freestanding fridge largely depends on your specific preferences and kitchen design. Built-in fridges are designed to seamlessly integrate into your kitchen cabinetry, offering a sleek and modern look. They are customised to fit perfectly within your kitchen layout to maximize space efficiency. On the other hand, freestanding cooling units provide flexibility in terms of placement, allowing you to easily relocate them if needed and can act as the focal point in a kitchen design.

Freestanding fridges

Offering more flexibility in terms of installation, Siemens freestanding fridges also offer a variety of styles and designs options. Find the perfect fit for your kitchen aesthetic, from striking black glass finish to sleek stainless steel options, and from stand-alone fridges to spacious multi-door fridge freezers. These appliances can be quickly set up, installed, and moved.

For a more versatile and space-saving option, our multifunctional combination appliances, like our bottom-freezer fridges, come in a range of interior configurations and designs. What size fridge do I need?

While size selection largely depends on the space available, it is important to make sure your fridge has enough capacity for your household. A good rule of thumb when calculating the appropriate fridge capacity, is to allocate 100 litres for yourself and increase by an additional 50 litres for each additional member in your household. Size categories are determined by the width: standard 60cm, XL 70cm and side-by-side 90cm. The sizes of built-in cooling appliances are slightly different. Our single door built fridges are between 54 cm and 70 cm wide, and 158 cm to 193 cm tall, while the built-in versions range from 54 cm to 60cm and 71 cm to 177 cm high.

Capacity guide

  • Simply add 50 litres for each additional person in your home.

  • One-person household: A 100-litre capacity fridge should suit your needs.

  • Two-person household: A 150-litre capacity fridge should suit your needs.

  • Three-person household: You should look for a 200-litre capacity fridge.

Will I need to defrost my fridge or freezer?

The technology in Siemens cooling appliances prevents frost from forming during regular use. And to ensure that no accidents happen, door alarm feature lets you know when the door is not closed.

Say farewell to frost: noFrost

Cleaning a frosted-up freezer is a thing of the past. noFrost diverts the humidity from the freezer so the air remains dry. This stops frost formation inside the compartments or on your food while keeping energy consumption low.

Reduced frost formation: lowFrost

Fridges use more power when ice and frost have formed. Thanks to lowFrost technology, less frost forms in the first place, while defrosting is much faster if it does.
