Types of dishwashers
There are two main types to choose from, integrated dishwashers and freestanding dishwashers. Since all performance features are available in both types, the key difference is the placement options. Integrated dishwashers are available in a range of sizes and installation options, namely fully integrated dishwashers, semi-integrated dishwashers, and built-under dishwashers. Freestanding dishwashers also come in a range of sizes, including compact (small, table top) versions.

Standard, taller, slimline, compact, or countertop: the size of dishwasher you need depends on the space available in your kitchen as well as your household size.
Dishwasher cycle time
The time it takes to clean a load can be longer or significantly shorter, depending on which wash cycle you choose. However, the average dishwasher run time is between 1 and 4 hours. The energy and water saving Eco programme, for example, runs for longer but the half-load and quick wash programmes need significantly less time. The duration of the sensor-controlled autoProgramme changes depending on the amount of laundry and soiling level, while the intelligent Siemens varioSpeed feature reduces the standard cycle time by up to 66%*.

What is the quietest dishwasher I can have?
Dishwashers are given a noise rating according to their decibel level. Models with a rating of 45 dB or less are categorised as silent.
Quiet as a whisper: Night program
With the night program you can complete a wash with a volume of only 39 dB. The night program is great for open plan kitchens or if you want to run your dishwasher at night and sleep undisturbed.
How to choose an eco-friendly dishwasher
While most modern appliances are designed to be eco-friendly, every machine is given an eco-rating which you can find displayed on your dishwasher. Ratings range from A – G with A being the most energy- and water-efficient.

Energy consumption: how much energy does a dishwasher use?
Dishwashers are surprisingly energy efficient. A standard 1200-watt model with a 1-hour wash cycle uses 1.2 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. Siemens dishwashers use only approx. 1 kWh of energy for each wash.
Water consumption: how much water does a dishwasher use?
Siemens dishwashers use only 10 - 12 liters of water per wash. To further reduce consumption and cleaning time, select the quick rinse program whenever possible or use the Variospeed Plus feature.

Cutlery basket or rack?
A cutlery basket is quick to load. It’s also portable, so it’s handy if you need to put cutlery away in different places or your dishwasher isn’t next to your cutlery drawer. A rack means each item sits independently, so there’s no cutlery cross-over to affect cleaning. If you organise similar cutlery items together, they’re nice and quick to unpack too.
