What to consider when buying a hood
Ductless hoods (also called re-circulation and non-vented hoods) work by sucking in air, cleaning it through filters, and circulating air back into the kitchen. They are highly flexible as they can be easily installed, anywhere.
Exhaust air hoods (also called vented hoods) direct the hot air outside your home via a vent. They are generally more efficient, quieter and easier to maintain since they don't require a filter. However, they must be professionally installed.
The extraction rate refers to how much air gets filtered in an hour. This is measured in cubic meters per hour (m³/h). Ideally, all the air in your kitchen should be filtered approximately 10 times per hour. Therefore, the recommended extraction rate will varies depending on the size of your kitchen.
For those who want to know it in detail: You can calculate the optimal extraction rate for your exact needs by multiplying the width, length, and height of your kitchen to get the total cubic meters, and then multiplying that number by 8 and add 200 (W x L x H x 8 + 200).
Usually, the more powerful the cooker hood, the higher the noise emissions – but Siemens hoods are built for maximum performance with minimal noise. Our quietest models produce just 41 decibels of sound during normal operation, and 53 decibels at maximum power – well below average. The actual volume development of the respective model always depends on the type of installation, the pipework and the filter.
The climateControl sensor helps keep noise (and energy consumption) as low as possible by adjusting the power level to the amount of steam and grease in the air. Our iQdrive motor is not only powerful but also extremely quiet, thanks to its brush-less design. Don't compromise between performance and noise-level comfort with Siemens ventilation systems.
There are three main types of extractor hood filters; fleece filters, metal grease filters and odor filters (also called activated carbon filters).
With the cleanAir Plus filter, a very high amount of odors are filtered out of the air – so unpleasant fish smells are a thing of the past. In addition: An extremely high amount of airborne pollen and deactivated allergens are also trapped by the filter. The cleanAir Plus filter usually has to be changed every 12 to 18 months.
Our regenerable long-life odor filter neutralize over 80% of odors, while convincing with 10 years of full performance thanks to the possibility of regeneration as it can be easily cleaned in the oven at 200°C every 4 months.
Activated carbon filters need to be changed when they become saturated. This is usually the case after 6 to 12 months for the standard activated carbon filters
The installation and assembly requirements depend on which type of extractor system you have: vented (exhaust) or ductless (recirculating).
For a vented system, you will need to have access to the outside of the building. Suitable exhaust air piping must be installed between the extractor hood and the outlet in order to transport the extracted air outside as efficiently as possible.
For a recirculation system, all you will need is a socket and our recirculation set, which contains the activated carbon filter and other necessary items.
